Gary Young - SPCG Volunteer Director and Secretary
Gary was born and raised in San Pedro attending local schools and graduating from San Pedro High School in 1962.
Gary married his wife Nancy 47 years ago. They are now both retired; Gary retired from the Carpenters Union and Nancy, a nurse, from Little Co. of Mary San Pedro Hospital after 41 years there.
Gary and Nancy have 2 children. Their daughter Kimberly is married to Anthony DiLeva and they have 2 children, Nickolas 18 and Makayla 13. Gary and Nancy's son David is married to Rina Gonzales and they have 2 children, John 9 and Kaia 7.
Gary served in the U.S. Army Reserves, worked at Todd Shipyard and was a merchant seaman with the National Maritime Union, sailing throughout Asia in the 1960’s.
He joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 2375, Piledrivers in Wilmington Calif. starting in the apprenticeship program working in the trade. Over the years he held various positions in the local union including 3 years as vice president, president for 19 years and board member. After serving as an Apprenticeship Coordinator for many years, he returned to the Local as Business Manager and Financial Secretary until he retired in 2007. While working in this capacity, he also held a position on the Southwest Regional Carpenters Executive Board for 10 years and was the President of the International Council of Piledrivers.
Gary is a member of San Pedro Elks 966, the Dalmation American Club, the Portuguese Cultural Club and the San Pedro Golf Club.
He is currently enjoying retirement playing golf, babysitting, traveling, cooking and going to Doctor appointments!
